Welcome back to another Flames of War Friday.

I've been hard at work this week working my way through the Allied forces from the Open Fire Starter Set and its time to start basing them.

Step One: Glue to Base
Firstly you'll need to make sure that you're gluing the correct figures to the correct bases and in the right combinations; Battlefront have produced a wonderful assembly guide to help us out. Then simply glue each figure to one of the round slots on the base using either a super glue or plastic glue.

Step Two: Flock/Sand for Dirt & Earth
Now we want to put down the foundation of the base; dirt or earth. There are a couple of different methods you can use for this; either using a flock; or using sand and then painting it. I'm using flock, Woodland Scenics Earth as it doesn't require any additional painting and it's a very fine grade so suits the 15mm scale of Flames of War. Just brush some watered down PVA glue carefully onto the base and then dip into the flock.

Step Three: Rocks & Long Grass/Shrubs
Then we want to add some additional detail by adding some rocks and grass tufts. For rocks I've used Army Painter Battlefield Rocks, simply placing them onto a small drop of super glue with some tweezers. To represent longer grass and shurbs there's a huge range of different materials you can use, including the awesome Woodland Scenics range . I've used some Meadow Flowers and Wilderness Tufts from Army Painter's Bat­tlefields XP series. These tufts are very realistic and easy to apply in the same way as the rocks.

Step Four: Edge Painting
The final step is to paint the edge of the base. This gives a neat, clean finish and helps to frame the models when they are on the tabletop.
