Description

On its fifth down-home, tongue-in-cheek album, Hayseed Dixie departs somewhat from its previous single genre tribute formula to perform bluegrass acoustic versions of songs by Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, and Black Sabbath as well as its own "rockgrass" compositions. Though the concept isn't new (the PICKIN' ON... series has been doing the same thing for some time), the band's fire and obvious enthusiasm injects songs like Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" and Zeppelin's "Black Dog," in which Jimmy Page's guitar licks are transposed almost note for note, with a loose, good-timey feel that's immensely appealing, while their reggae-tinged instrumental herbal tribute "Marijuana" follows in the footsteps of the Champs' "Tequila."
