Having not been a huge fan of the Arctic Monkeys, I was mightily impressed when I heard tunes such as ‘R U Mine-’ and ‘Knee Socks’ and subsequently bought the album. In an age where timeless music seems to be a virtually forgotten art, it is refreshing to hear a modern band taking the quirky, sonic trends of modern music and the sultry, moody swing of classic acts such as Bob Dylan and The Beatles to piece together a supposed ‘masterpiece’. The band are never sort of luscious or subtle melodies or elegantly layered rhythms that highlight Alex Turner's silky smooth and effortless voice. The overall timbre is pleasing to the ear and no, not every song sounds the same. I would definitely recommend this album to anybody.
