Description

Aftershock is a 2012 Chilean-American disaster horror / thriller film starring Eli Roth, Andrea Osvárt and Ariel Levy.

After an earthquake erupts in Chile, tourists discover that a neighbouring prison in the area collapsed in the event and all surviving criminals managed to break free. Soon they learn that the most terrifying thing, more threatening than Mother Nature, is what she created.

Aftershock Reviews

“Gleefully trashy “Aftershock” applies a grindhouse sensibility — minus the faux-oldie stylings of other recent exploitation homages — to a disaster-survival thriller that acts more like a horror film. The English-language debut of Chilean director Nicolas Lopez (“Fuck My Life”) toplines “Hostel” helmer Eli Roth, no stranger to tasteless cinema, as an American caught in a major Valparaiso earthquake. This Dimension pickup is a hectic, sometimes hilarious guilty pleasure that should delight genre geeks.” Variety

“…things get dark and bloody in the aftermath of the major earthquake that hits. But also lots of fun. Seriously, I was surprised with myself at how often I laughed out loud with this film. Maybe part of it is, when things get so out of hand, what else can you do but laugh? Or maybe I’m just a sick bastard? I’m willing to entertain both scenarios…If you like scares where the supernatural doesn’t need to be involved because nature and humanity can more than do the heavy-lifting, you’ve got it. Like gore? You’ve got it. Like to laugh? Going to happen. Like moments of transcendent heroism and cowardly horror and inhumanity? Done. Overall, Aftershock is a horror film in that horrible, gory things happen, it’s a comedy because things made me laugh and it’s a disaster epic because an earthquake hits and does some ridiculous damage; it spans these different genres and does justice to each. For me, Aftershock was one helluva ride, and I’m ready to go again.” Film Threat

"..this Chilean thriller is brutal, unpredictable, horrifying in the most primal of ways, and very much Recommended. " DVD Talk

“Stupid, spluttery fun from Eli Roth, who wrote, produced and stars in this assholes-abroad schlocker. Roth’s character – nicknamed Gringo – and two equally obnoxious over-aged man-children head to Santiago, Chile for a booze ’n’ broads excursion when a “mega-quake” hits, destroying the city and turning its denizens into rape-and-murder-happy psychopaths. Will our scurrilous trio survive? Probably not, and that’s the fun part about Aftershock: it gleefully chops its cast down in increasingly alarming and brutal ways.” Total Film
