"Stay away!"

I had high hopes for this, even though I had a gut feeling it would be bad. But I had no idea how terrible.

The AI is clunky and not smart at all – the aliens are always running into walls and don't move around as they should, not fluid enough.

The graphics are shoddy! Think back to 2006 – that's how old they look. Was actually disgusted, and that's saying a lot from someone who enjoys playing HD remakes of PS2 games.

The voice acting is way off the mark, doesn't fit the feel of what a sequel to Aliens should.

All in all, this game disappointed me in far too many ways. I really want to see where the plot etc. goes and see how it all ties into the Aliens universe, but I actually can't bear to play through such a poorly designed game.

Well done Gearbox, you screwed us on this one. No wait… I'll blame Sega for this. Since when have they done anything decent…

"What a waste."

Imagine a game where the only thing you control is a piece of crap moving through a sewer. Now divide that experience by 50 and you'll get Aliens: Colonial Marines.

This game has been stuck in development hell for around 6 years, ample time for Gearbox to get it right. Instead they spent their efforts on Duke and Borderlands, outsourcing some development to a host of different companies leading to a ramshackle, just garbage game.

Graphics: Dated graphics that look like they're from a 360 launch title. Fire and other special effects look shoddy and almost no effort has been put into cutscenes. What is lip-synching-

AI: Your AI squad mates walk wherever they want, leading you to teleport ahead even if you're searching around. They often stand in doorways and even impede your progress by glitching into the environment, leaving you to restart from checkpoint. The enemies consist of a massive two varieties of human enemies who all look exactly the same, and aliens, who are just reskinned for variety.

Gameplay: The weapons feel like you're shooting water guns, the pulse rifle feels like a peashooter, which is a disappointment to any Aliens fan. Tired combat sections with enemy encounters fill the majority of the game. There is a really enjoyable section, in the sewers below Hadley's Hope, where you have to sneak past a ton of hibernating Aliens. It ends there and the rest of the game is boring.

Characters: Unlikeable characters, no character development whatsoever. One of the characters dies in the story and I actually felt relief since it meant one less dumb AI to get in my way.

Sound: Sound effects are lifted straight from the films, which is a nice fan service. Score isn't bad, but far from masterpieces like Halo's and Mass Effect's.

Multiplayer: Laggy online only multiplayer, alien movements are wooden and have no real flow and playing as a Marine just feels like any other generic shooter.

DLC: There is a season pass for 2400msp which I find to be absolutely hilarious, especially considering there is no DLC for the game at this time.

I think it's really really sad that I wasted 94 dollars on this turd. I went in expecting a below average game but what I got in my disc tray was just a completely unfinished game. I couldn't recommend this to anyone, let alone a diehard Aliens fan. H.R. Giger probably died of a heart attack when he saw this game in motion.

Overall, don't bother with this garbage. It has one redeeming section of the campaign, lasting 15 minutes if you really crawl through it. That's it. Gearbox has a lot of explaining to do with the half-assed quality of this game. I've played unpolished games like Dark Void and enjoyed them, but this is something else. Avoid.

Final Score: 2 out of 10. Playable at least, but you might as well play a game about a floating crap in a sewer.

"THE DEATH OF PRE-ORDERS"

1. DO NOT BUY. I am absolutely spitting acid at this game. The unpolished graphics and the appalling AI only scratch the surface. The only good thing I can say about this game is the audio, the links or easter eggs to the film and the lucky bugger who won the Alien statue for pre-order. I wish that was me. It is frustrating to see games like Halo direct knock offs of the Aliens Franchise doing so well and Gearbox completely screwing this up. Graphics comparison- Halo 4 start screen and A:CM start screen. Horrible. Nothing like the E3 Demo that was shown. What happened-

THIS SHOULD BE CLASSED AS FALSE ADVERTISING. And Sega or Gearbox should be offering refunds. See this you tube review. http://www.youtube.com/…=ck836MIeYwo

"So much potential, but a pedestrian effort at best."

Even overwhelming fanboy infatuation with the sounds of M-41A pulse rifles, smart guns and motion trackers is not enough to make this game enjoyable. It feels clunky, predictable, half-assed and lazy. You can't help but feel a massive opportunity was squandered here. Stick to AvP2 on PC I say.

"Appalling, Gearbox should be ashamed"

Odds on for biggest let-down of the year. So much promise, delays, guarantees that this was going to be THE Alien game. It's terrible, graphics, controls, hitboxes, AI every single thing. Choose to believe me or not, this game is a shocker.

"Total Disappointment."
1 stars"

I had been looking forward to this game for months and was really excited for this game. Being a fan of the series I had high hopes for this game but after playing through it I was shocked at how bad this game was. Terrible graphics, dumb as dirt AI, poor dialogue, glitches from here to Africa. I struggled to play through the single player campaign. The only good thing I can say about it is that I enjoyed the Multiplayer (versus, not Co-op), but it isn't going to be your go-to game for a good online experience. I cannot recommend this game to anyone.

"AWESOME GAME IN THE ALIEN SERIES"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

I finally bought this last year at the Mighty Ape stand at Armageddon in 2013,…bloody awesome!!!

Now before the monkey's start throwing stuff at me, I AM NOT A DIE HARD GAMER.

I play when I can,..not often enough and really enjoy the game. As a ALIENS fan running through the Hadleys Hope complex being chased by xenomorphs is exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Yes the demo original shown is not the release version, but what other games let you fire off an M4-A1 pulse rifle,…any one– I enjoyed it so much I purchased another copy for my mate last xmas…may do so again for another friend.

Best game ever

"No wonder it retails at 13.99"

It's not as bad as some of the reviews I read. I'm a big fan of the Alien franchise especially Aliens so for me it was cool to play and explore some of the films key locations. From a gaming point of view it's miles away from perfect but playable none the less. You can't complain for under $20

"Undeserving of it's reputation."

This game is not all that bad. Whatever things people hated about it must have been fixed because I'm finding it quite playable. It bores me after half an hour or so but then any completely linear FPS would.

If you've watched the movie a hundred times like I have you will be pleased at how faithfully things like the pulse rifles and motion trackers have been implemented. The aliens are done quite well and come at you crawling on the walls and drop down on you from the ceiling, or leap on top of you. I'm also pleased that your health doesn't auto regenerate like a typical shooter (well it does a bit if one section of your health bar is still a bit full), you have to find med packs to heal yourself and they're few and far between so it can get quite tense when you're hurt badly and you're trying to find one.

What I don't like are the decidedly below average graphics, the checkpoint save system, the way ammo and armour pick ups are just left strewn around for you to find and the completely linear gameplay.

I think it's a fairly average shooter but worth a go if you're a fan of the genre. It's not as bad as you'd think judging by it's reputation (get the patch though), and it gets a bit better after the first two missions and you get down to the planet surface.

I still don't understand how it can take place at the Hadley's Hope colony though, because it was blown up at the end of Aliens the movie.

Enjoyable game from start to finish. I must for any 40K fan. Decent graphics good story line, plenty of weapons. Lots of carnage. 8/10

"A fair review"

To be honest and fair I give this higher than average rating, as I play this game from time to time more often than my other games. The game itself is fun to play both offline and online, the graphic glitch is easy to fix too, all you need is optional install it into the hdd and it will load like a normal xbox360 game.

"Worst game ever"

Not mighty apes fault… Just badly made by the developers

"A bad game, what else can you say."

I was thinking of buying this for my younger brother who is into the Alien franchise, etc, but after reading the online Youtube and user reviews, etc I think i'll pass on doing so even though its cheap as chips now (unsurprisingly!) Better shooters and games of all sorts are always being released and these badly made games fall way short and just don't make the cut for a decent gamer's decent gaming collection. Gearbox should just focus on what its actually good at, Borderlands is a great franchise that's doing them cudos, Duke and this are just utter crap. Total 1 out of 10.
