After buying Armored Core: For Answer a few years back I decided to try out Armored Core: Verdict Day despite the lack of splitscreen, and I am extremely disappointed.
Verdict day has a lot of changes that just ruin the franchise, for example: The AI are so overpowered that missions are next to impossible unless playing co-op. The control scheme is now overly complicated and most features won't be found without experimentation. There are no ammo counters and no way of knowing how much ammo you have left. The ultimate booster can only be activated from the ground. There is no vertical thruster anymore, and to gain elevation on the battlefield you have to “ninja jump” your way up the side of buildings. Speaking of buildings, they are no longer destructable, only specific set pieces are destroyable. The camera is now floating and provides the worst visual angles at all time making it hard to see what's going on, and even harder to play with precision.
I avoided paying full price for this monstrosity, and I am glad, I've played it three times and now I'm getting rid of it. The graphics are the only improvement they've made on this game. I would not recommend buying this game.
