"WOW Meets Call Of Duty"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Borderlands was quite an ambitious title, fusing the two genres of Role Playing with the First Person Shooter Genre – And it worked!

First things First – if your a diehard Role playing type gamer, Borderlands will seem very simple, as there isn't as many skills etc that you can upgrade as you could in your typical RPG type game. However, what is there suits this game well and is great for a casual RPG player, or even someone who has never played a Role Playing Game before and just wanted to shoot some bad guys.

The shooting mechanics on the game are fairly good, maybe not quite as good as your Armed Assault or Call Of Duty series, but it still works well. The game has a inbuilt content creator, basically resulting in thousands – maybe even millions of possible guns to find. You will never find the same gun twice.

The Story probably lacks a little bit of depth/background, but tbh you don't need it in this title. Its a fairly open world, with you getting the objective and setting off to complete it in any way you feel necessary.

Great game, well worth the buy/.

If you enjoyed fallout 3 this game is the next best thing, the online co-op mode is by far the most fun especially if your playing on a lan with friends.

"Futuristic first person Diablo 2?"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game is an interesting mix of FPS, RPG, and comic styled animation.

It takes place on a desert planet full of bandits and weird creatures. You have to hunter for the key to a vault, said to contain riches and alien technology. Though there are many side quests you could do as you hunt for the keys to the vault.

The graphics are comic style, so they aren't they best compared to games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But the game looks great as it is. The sounds are good, and the voices suit their characters well.

The game plays nicely, the controls are easy to pick up if you've played an FPS before, and if you've played an RPG like World of Warcraft or something similar as well then there should be no problem setting up your character the way you want it.

The weapons, grenade mods, class mods, and shields are what really makes this game something worth playing, if you enjoy a game that never drops two of the same item, then you'll be over the moon with Borderlands. The guns are all rather balanced, until you get elemental weapons, in which case some are better than others, but all have a use somewhere. For example fire weapons work well on targets who's shield is down or have no shield, explosion works well on about everything, corrosive works well against armor, and shock against shields.

I have played it through once, and really enjoyed the main quest, I haven't done many side quests though. But they aren't boring like side quests can often be. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys leveling up and FPS games.

I give this game a 9/10 (4.5/5 stars)

"One of the best this year. "

Whether you're playing this solo or with a group of mates you'll love the action and just general feel.

It's highly addictive, so expect to put any commitments or partners on the backburner as you'll be thoroughly distracted. ;)

"Overrated, poorly performing, derivative."
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

A good enough game but… not enough. Not near close to enough. On a fairly rig, mid-high spec rig, it struggles with 1080p resolution, which is crazy given the plain textures and landscape. Other unreal engine 3 games run perfectly on the same system.

I'd forgive the performance if the game was better. It's not. It's an average console port, at best. No innovation of note in the gameplay, fairly unengaging. Not fast enough to be a blast, not RPG enough to be about character building.

Disappointing, but entertaining enough for a wet afternoon. Quakewars, team fortress, or CoD are still better games, though, both single and multiplayer.

"How did I miss this - Great Game !"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I can not believe that I did not know how great this game is !

It is so much fun to play, with very cartoon like graphics that you soon become very accustomed too, it reminds me a little of Diablo 2, but in the future and in first person, because of all the drops you get from killing enemies or looting Containers etc, there are literally 1000's of weapons with different attributes and colours. Some of the creatures you come across while exploring are very Beautifully although deadly LOL.

This is what “Rage” should have been but with the more realistic graphics of rage. I can not recommend this game highly enough, and do not forget to get the 4 DLC's that have come out for even more fun.

"Very entertaining"

You can tell this came from Duke Nuke 'em studios. Lots to do, semi-freeform shooter. Some levels quite challenging. Little bit annoying to clear an area, then it's overrun again when you go back. Maybe that's life? Highly recommended.

"A lot of fun"

I'm not a big FPS fan – far more into RTS & RPG games. But this one was one a big special, and had many good reviews so thought I'd give it a crack since it apparently has an RPG element to it.

Very happy to say that a few weeks on and I'm still loving it. Gameplay is great, selection of weapons and the way your character develops make it a lot of fun.

This is a great game!

"Excellent, well put together"

This game worked for me, great overall feel, incredible selection of weapons, and the 4 different characters make playthroughs interesting. Recommended

"All round fun and playability"
4 stars"

Good fun, and has the re-playability factor thrown in. Not completely different every time you play but the quest for bigger, better, faster weapons keeps you hooked.

Multiplayer! Yeah, always good to head shot the enemy when your mates are watching!!

Just a good solid game with enough to keep you coming back and playing even though you've been around the clock. So if you like FPS and you like levelling up, buy Borderlands and buy the add ons (except General Knox, its average).

"Fast-paced addictive easy to play shooter. "
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Gameplay is excellent, fast-paced, smooth seamless action. Nice touch with the RPG elements, and it only requires as much attention as you're willing to give it (don't let that aspect put you off). Comparing it to Fallout 3, Borderlands has a faster pace. There is not as much exploration and discovery; certainly the gameplay in Borderlands is a lot more linear (in so far as side missions only become available at certain points). This game has a strong emphasis on the combat (which is why the four different characters/classes don't feel very different), and it is very easy, smooth and enjoyable. Very much Halo-like in its pace and execution.

A neat feature I noticed (haven't read anything about it, so cannot confirm) is that your cursor will auto-trace the target in your reticle to a small degree – making it easier to track targets while zoomed in and while moving/dodging fire. It's subtle, will stop if you move your mouse away, and it doesn't feel like cheating (i.e. Not like an autoaim).

Artistically and graphically it looks fantastic. And because of the cell-shade-like art style, textures aren't as detailed and you can run it at high-res with pretty good framerates, on an average machine.

The only down-side was it seemed a bit short-lived. There are currently four DLC expansions available to fix that though – consider getting the Game of The Year addition which includes all four (otherwise only the first two expansions can be bought on disc currently). Otherwise they are all online (e.g. Via Steam).

"Diablo and First person shooter - come together"
5 stars"

Borderlands is a lengthy game with very intense boss fights. The start is quite hard when your skill with all weapons is 1. Even killing the rats requires a clip of ammo followed by 3 stabs of the knife. However, once leveling higher the boss fights become challenging , or stand back and snipe :D Borderlands has a good story line and kept me entertained for weeks.

"Comics In Action"

Borderlands is almost like you are playing a comic. Don't be deceived by the pictures just because the graphics don't look spectacular. They are in fact immaculate! It is quite a change and a nice one at that to have something not as flashy and so advanced for once. Borderlands like i said before is like as if you were playing in a comic book. It has great action in it and a pretty damn good story line. It has quite a few challenges to face and overall is quite a long-ish game. Worth its money and worth its 5/5 stars.

"this game is going to be remembered"

A really good game. I don't think that that another game like this has ever been made. the game is good singleplayer. BUT AWESOME CO-OP WITH 4 PEOPLE! great at LAN parties.

Let your FPS dreams run wild! None of that Fallout 3 “walking for miles on end”. Vehicles, guns, great AI. What else do ya want in a FPS?

"Fun combination of shooter and RPG, "
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Borderlands is a lot of fun.

It is a combination of a shooter and a roleplaying game. It is not an awesome shooter, to be sure, nor is it an awesome roleplaying game, but it is a good-enough combination of both. Thinking about it, the phrase “good-enough” describes a lot of features of this game. The background plot is interesting though thin. The characters you meet have some character, but not a lot. The action is fun, but not earth-shattering.

The art style is quite distinctive and very pleasant to look at.
