This expansion is a great addition to the original Carcassone tile-laying game, in that it adds a bit more “flare” (pun intended) to the game.
Basically, you get extra tiles which get played the same way as the original Carcassone tiles. These tiles have extra features, namely the volcano, magic gate, and princess. Then, there are also 2 new wooden pieces included in this expansion, and these are the Dragon piece and the Fairy piece.
The wooden pieces and the new tiles in this expansion add a little bit more luck factor to the overall Carcassone game, because the new tiles and pieces in this expansion can increase/decrease your opportunities in scoring, depending on how lucky/unlucky you are to come across them in-game.
The purpose of the Dragon piece is to “eat up” Meeples, which mean your opportunities for scoring disappear. The Dragon piece comes about only a few times in the game though, and will depend on what tile you draw.
The Fairy piece can add protection against the Dragon in-game, and can give some extra help in scoring.
Your scoring opportunities also get increased/decreased by the magic portals and the princesses, depending on how lucky/unlucky you are to have drawn tile pieces containing these features.
All in all, a fun addition to the original Carcassone game.
