Description

The three children of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, grandchildren of the great leader Firestar, have thrived in their apprenticeships: Lionpaw's strength and energy serve him well as a warrior in training, Hollypaw hones her understanding of the warrior code, and Jaypaw explores his mysterious powers and connection to StarClan as the medicine cat apprentice.

With more experience comes both power and danger: Lionpaw makes a friendship-and a discovery-that must be kept hidden; Jaypaw learns a secret that could benefit ThunderClan by damaging others; and Hollypaw knows something that could avert a battle, if she could convince the rest of her Clan.

The three are torn apart as each discovers darkness: in themselves, in the Clans, and in the past. And, as conflict begins over what it means to be a warrior, rising tensions threaten to overflow, washing away the peace that has existed for many moons.

Review

"This was my first foray into the Warriors World, which is already populated with many previous adventures. Though I had not read the previous books I was able to pick the story up quickly after my initial confusion caused by meeting so many characters in just a few pages. This book chronicles the adventures of three cat apprentices in the ThunderClan-Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw. Though the cat clans have been at peace for some time, tensions are brewing and war seems imminent. The three apprentices, though once close, grow apart as they begin to hide secrets from one another. Ultimately they must decide where their loyalties lie as they work to avert war with the other cat clans. The Warriors World is a rich and complex landscape populated with interesting characters. Fans of animal fantasy should enjoy the many opportunities to venture into this interesting environment and join in the adventure." Children's Literature
