"EXTREMLY HARD GAME BUT VERY FUN"

This game will have you wanting to throw your controller at the wall but thats kind of why we all come back to this game. You risk dying but if you survive, you get rewarded with useful items. This game will make you SO F$&KING HAPPY when you complete this game. Its a real challenge.

4 stars "Hard as a truck"

This game is tuff. I would recommend it if you feel games are too easy these days. Like a scorned lover you will keep coming back for more, only to have your ass handed to you on a plate. Highly recommended if you are into that sort of thing, or have a below average level of self respect.

5 stars "Worth your time"

The game offers you countless hours or challenging gameplay. As you progress through the game you encounter many different enimies making for a game less boring. However, you will die and die again. So if you like to test your gaming skills not to mention your patience then this is the game for you.

1 stars "Superficial, repetitive, gruelling, tedious."

To even call this a role playing game is really stretching the definition of an RPG, and giving the game way too much credit. Ok, there is no single definition of an RPG, but nearly all the elements that you would expect to find in one, such as quests, a story, skills and NPC interaction are either practically non existent or completely so. The ONLY thing that makes this an RPG by any stretch of the imagination is you collect points (or souls) when you kill enemies and raise your attributes, such as vitality and strength ect. And that’s it. This is a third person action game, and a very simple, superficial one at that. All you do is fight your way through various areas killing monsters. That’s it. That’s the entire game. You don’t even have a journal. What sort of RPG doesn’t have a journal-

Certain elements are done quite well, such as the combat, but it just gets so boring. And it’s so repetitive. Every time you get killed, which is a lot, you return to the last spawn point you used and all the monsters respawn. So you end up doing the same thing over and over, killing the same monsters over and over.

The game is notoriously difficult, and it’s supposed to be, that’s not the problem. It’s the fact that you can’t save and all the monsters respawn when you die that makes this such a boring and gruelling experience.

There is something I really like about it though, and that is you have very limited means to heal yourself. And unlike nearly every other RPG I could name from the last few years your health doesn’t auto regenerate. Hallelujah! And what is even more cool is when you take a swig of your health potion your character animates the action, which takes a couple of seconds and leaves you vulnerable to attack. So you can’t spam health potions, and you don’t pause the game when you take them. I LOVE this, and I wish more games were like that.

That alone can’t save the game though. They should pay us to play it, not the other way around. It’s about as much fun as a root canal.

REVIEWS

“..If you just play games for fun, this isn't for you, and no amount of insistence on my part is going to change that. But if you're interested in the limits of the videogame form – to see just how focused, how pure and how uncompromising in its vision a game can be – Dark Souls is unmissable. If you take the time get into Dark Souls' mindset, to begin to understand the twisted way in which it operates and taste the rewards behind its cruellest challenges, this is one of the most thrilling, most fascinating and most completely absorbing experiences in gaming.” 9/10 – IGN

“…Dark Souls requires intense focus. This isn't a lighthearted romp in a bright and colorful fantasy world; it's a methodical journey into the frightening unknown. And that's what makes it so riveting. Some games try to scare you with bump-in-the-night shocks and far-off howls, but Dark Souls doesn't require such predictable methods of terror. Its terrors emanate from its very core, each step bringing you closer to another inevitable death. How amazing that such a terrible place could be so inviting. The game's world is so memorable, and its action so thrilling, that it might invade your thoughts even when you aren't playing, silently urging you to escape the real world and return to this far more treacherous one. Dark Souls doesn't just surpass other dungeon crawlers; it skewers them with a razor-sharp halberd and leaves behind their soulless corpses.” 9.5/10 – Gamespot
