Description

The ambition with David Middleton's League-o-pedia was not just to showcase the incredible treasure-trove of footy facts and yarns collected by the man known by fans and critics alike as ‘The Guru’. The aim was also to craft a book that will settle many arguments, and start a few more. It is, if you like, league's own Book of World Records – an A-to-Z starring all the great players from the game's 108 seasons. It reinforces Middleton's reputation as the best record keeper, researcher and historian in the game. Football aficionados will relish the wealth of information in this book. The provocative commentary – which pinpoints the most interesting and revealing aspects of each subject – makes League-o-pedia unique, compelling and an ideal Father's Day gift for all league fans. This is a Stokehill Press publication.

Author Biography: David Middleton's career in the rugby league media began in 1982, when he was in Year 11 at high school and produced a book of Australian rugby league records for Rugby League Week. He joined the staff of RLW soon after, as a feature writer, staying for nine years until he left to establish his own league information consultancy. In 1997, he became the official statistician for Channel Nine's award-winning rugby league coverage, a position he still holds. He also makes regular appearances on The Footy Show. Middleton is the author or co-author of a number of league books, including the centenary history of rugby league in Australia, the official histories of the Illawarra Steelers and the Sydney Roosters, and the biography of league great Laurie Daley. He also compiled an anthology of the first 25 years of Rugby League Week (1970–1994) and a book of rugby league trivia with Peter Sterling. Middleton has been the editor of Australian rugby league's Official Yearbook since 1988.
