"Take it for what it is"

I just bought an xbox one with Destiny, and so far loving the xbox one itself. Destiny however has sadly been the victim of too much hype. Lets start with the good:

The game looks absolutely stunning on xbox one. I have played the Beta on xbox 360 and the xbox one version is vastly superior graphically. Definitely a great game to show off the graphical capabilities of a next gen console.

The shooting mechanics are very good and extremely satisfying. It is so much fun to play that I forget all of the negatives while I am at least playing the single player missions. The addition of the special abilities for each class is a real treat and the melee attacks are excellent.

The bad:

While stunning, the environments are generic, boring and surprisingly small given that Bungie have advertised this to be the next big open world game.

The story is average at best and Peter Dinklage's voice acting sounds like he lost a bet and is voicing Ghost for free

The competitive multi player is adequate, but no where near as fun as Halo, COD or even Titanfall.

The classes are too similar and there seems to be no reason to party with other classes as they all basically do the same thing.

The game is a very competent and fun sci fi shooter. But at least in my opinion, that's all it is. It is not the revolutionary online shooter MMO hybrid that Bungie told us it would be. If you are looking for a fun multiplayer shooter to kill 20–40 hours on, then Destiny is definitely worth it. But if you are looking for an immersive in depth world to explore and get lost in for hundreds of hours than you are better off looking elsewhere.

"Buyer Beware"
1 stars"

For those looking to get into destiny it should be made clear that the end game will be practically unplayable unless you buy each expansion when its released. No other game has ever done this. This disc without the dlc expansions is a shell of a game and is not the game it was even when released. A great deal of the content has been stripped and put behind this dlc expansion paywall. It looks as though the game will continue in this vain so if you can not afford to keep paying for each expansion then you will be left behind and the game you bought will keep being changed to attempt to force you into purchasing this dlc. This sort of anti consumer behavior in the gaming industry is ethically questionable to say the least. So if buying expect to have to fork out 40 – 70 dollars every few months just to keep playing.

"Fun but finished story mode and won't play it again."

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Games alright, sort of a mix between halo and borderlands but not as fun as either. Good bits: Killing the baddies doesn't get boring and the bosses are fun. Bad bits: The crucible multiplayer seems slow and sluggish if you have Titanfall. Game can't be paused at all. No game manual. Skill tree seems like its trying to balance too much for single and multiplayer. Definitely not the revolutionary “Shared World Shooter” it was hyped up to be.

Description

From Bungie, the creators of Halo, and Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, comes Destiny, the next evolution in interactive entertainment and an epic adventure unlike anything players have experienced.

In Destiny you are a Guardian of the last city on Earth, able to wield incredible power. Explore the ancient ruins of our solar system, from the red dunes of Mars to the lush jungles of Venus. Defeat Earth's enemies. Discover all that we have lost. Become legend.

Destiny delivers an all new way to experience first-person action games. A sweeping adventure set within a bold new universe, featuring an unprecedented combination of cooperative, competitive, public, and community activities seamlessly woven into an expansive, persistent, online world.

Features:

  • Brave New World – Destiny will instantly draw players into a universe of heroes and legends, with worlds and storytelling crafted by Bungie, the creators of Halo – one of the most beloved and critically-acclaimed entertainment franchises of all time.
  • Your Legend – In Destiny you create your own legend as you and your friends venture out into the solar system to reclaim the treasures and secrets lost after the collapse of humanity's Golden Age. Over the course of your adventures you become more powerful, able to wield rare and exotic weapons, gear, and powers.
  • Adventure Awaits – Personalize and upgrade every aspect of how you look and fight with a near limitless combination of armor, weapons, and visual customizations. Take it all with you into every mode, including Destiny's story, competitive multiplayer, and public combat destinations. Return to The City, Destiny's third person social space to refuel, repair, and rearm before going out on your next adventure.
  • Connected Universe – Destiny is more than a disc in a drive, it is a persistent, online universe filled with other players. As the world grows and expands over time, so does the story, the destinations you can access, the activities you experience, and rewards you can earn.
  • A Social Experience – Destiny’s many destinations will feature areas called Public Spaces where players journeying solo or with friends will seamlessly cross paths with other players and Fireteams, some on similar missions, others engaging in completely different activities.
    • Public Events – Contained within some of Destiny’s public spaces are realtime dynamic events that players and Fireteams in the area can choose to engage in. These Public Events are short skirmishes where multiple players work together to defeat their common enemies and collect awesome loot.
  • Classes – Destiny features three unique classes to choose from, each with their own custom looks and abilities. Players will be able to crush their enemies as a Titan, vanquish foes as a crafty Hunter, or unleash incredible arcane energies on any adversary as a Warlock.
    • Titan – The first Titans built the Wall, and gave their lives to defend it. Now, you stand in the same high place, steadfast and sure, protecting all who shelter in your shadow. You hail from a long line of heroes, forged from strength and sacrifice. Our enemies may be deadly and merciless, but so are you.
    • Hunter – Hunters once prowled the wilderness and wastelands, taking big risks for even bigger rewards. You're no outlaw—at least, not anymore—but making your own luck has always meant bending the rules. Your unique brand of daring and ingenuity is needed now more than ever.
    • Warlock – Warlocks have long studied the Traveler, mastering some of its arcane energies. Its true purpose still remains a great mystery, but discovering truth has always driven you into the unknown. Now, our enemies are the only thing that stands between you and the lost wonders of our Golden Age.
