This is an early Sylvester McCoy story, where he was finally finding his feet as the Doctor, and starting to take him down the darker path.

One slightly tragic aspect of this era of “Who” was the producers constant desire to have celebrity cameos. In other stories, it hurts them a little, but Ken Dodds character in this…well, you can make your own mind up.

This was an enjoyable story, and the character of Ray was just the sort that was best suited as a companion for the Doctor. Of course, Ace arrives in the very next story, and is regarded as one of the best companions ever. Bad timing for Sara Griffiths (the actress playing Ray).

I loved the music score weaved throughout, a contemporary montage of 50's style music, which made the story live.

Oh, and for those of you who think kids are growing up too fast these days, watch this, and count your blessings…

"Lots of music, chasing and fun."

This story has a space liner shaped as a bus with aliens disguised as humans. Plently of music and running around as the Bannermen try to locate Delta. The story is imaginative and fun. A definate fifties feel and perhaps too brief at three episodes. The Bannermen are not very good at locating Delta andshe manages to avoid capture much too easily. This lets the story down a little.

Description

The time: 1959. The place: the Shangri-La Holiday Camp, South Wales. The Doctor and Mel want time out. The hedonistic alien Navarinos wants to catch some vintage rock and roll. And two CIA agents want to know what happened to their country’s missing satellite.
