Doctor who is a good science fiction program for people who like sci fi doctor who is cool
Another great Easter Special. The lead female character definitely gave the Doctor a run for his money. Loved the lead Unit characters and their interaction with the Doctor – very amusing.
It's easy to criticize. (In the words of Homer Simpson: “Fun, too!) Due to the decision to only do 5 "Special” episodes during 2009, combined with the fact David Tennant (The current Doctor) and Russell T. Davies (Producer) are leaving, there's very little character development possible in episodes like this, because new people will need a clean slate. That's only fair, I suppose.
The main disappointment for me is that I thought Michelle Ryan's Character (Christina) would have made a brilliant new companion, but not to be. I suspect that she is an incarnation of the companion the Seventh Doctor was supposed to have had – the brilliant daughter of an upper class criminal – if the show hadn't been cancelled in 1989. I'd love to have seen more.
That being said, the bottom line for this episode is: Great Story, well acted, brilliant role played by Lee Evans as Malcolm. Well worth it.
