This is a great British drama series – don't know why it hasn't been on TV in NZ. All the Morse devotees would love it! Was recommended to my husband and me by a friend and we have enjoyed it so much that we purchased seasons 1– 3 for my father's 83rd birthday and are watching season 4 ourselves right now. Each episode is a good detective story, the gradual character development of Foyle, Sam and Milner draws you in and the insight into various aspects of WW2 interwoven into each story is great. We are well and truly addicted and will be bereft when we have finished watching all the seasons.
We bought three seasons worth and are absolutely enthralled with the characters, storylines, attention to detail. It's so insightful. We'll buy the entire series eventually and consider it great value.
Michael Kitchen's performance is believable as a disgruntled sleuth working to maintain justice throughout wartime, while Honeysuckle Weeks is down to eath and practical with a delightful honesty and sweet “chasteness” typical of the time. Milner also adds a certain something to the trio that helps the viewer identify with their character's lives and the three together make compelling viewing.
I have all of this series now. Foyle is,as I've said, brilliant. His look is sufficent to make one confess. Sam is lovely too with that twinkle in her eye. I regularly watch them over again. Beverley.
Well acted with meticulous attention to detail of the war period regarding scenery, vehicles, and clothing. Each movie length DVD always interesting and keeps you guessing right to the end.
We thoroughly enjoy the whole series and expect to view it many times in the future. The acting is very true to life and the presentation depicting the time and the conditions has been handled with realism. Those who were born through the WW2 years and those who have just heard about it would be equally entertained. Each episode deals with crime committed in a war time setting which makes it quite unique.
The scripts of this series (I have all the previous episodes) are very well written and the cast is convincing. Honeysuckle Weeks as Foyle's driver is a unique and engaging character. Set in southern England in WWII, the atmosphere is authentic and the locations and special effects very effective. You should see the previous episodes too, and learn some history. Great entertainment in the English style.
Brought as gift for husband – and became a firm devotee – even purchased the rest of the set
This series has been an absolute joy – can't wait for Series 6
