Description

High Plains Drifter: 40th Anniversary Edition. Digitally remastered and fully restored, the movie, penned by The French Connection's Ernest Tidyman, stars Eastwood as a mysterious gunslinger who rides into a God-fearing town, where he gets hired to protect the God-fearing locals from a cold-blooded gang of outlaws. Blood and bullets ensues, as well as plenty of teeth-clenched cigars.

Clint Eastwood returns to his familiar Old West stomping grounds and his internationally acclaimed role of “The Man with No Name” in “High Plains Drifter”. This time, The Stranger (Eastwood) mysteriously appears out of the heat waves of the desert and rides into the lawless, sin-ridden town of Lago…

Directed by Clint Eastwood himself, this pulse-pounding shoot-em-up is recognized as one of his signature western classics.

High Plains Drifter Reviews

“Eastwood directs his first Western, and it's a knockout. HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER is a morality tale carved out of the harsh Western desert and directed with a panache that synthesized the styles of Sergio Leone and Don Siegel, two directors who had worked with Eastwood frequently. The result is one of the best Westerns of the 1970s.” TV Guide

“A funny, brutal, scary movie, daringly surreal in its mix of Western and horror themes.” Empire Magazine

“it is a gripping work, harsh and ahead of its time.” Film4

“rough, violent western action flick. Clint Eastwood, who stars and directs, has clearly learned a lot from making the Man With No Name trilogy with Sergio Leone, as this film feels very similar in style. What Eastwood adds to the mix is an almost spiritual reflectiveness: behind all the blood is a surprisingly deep introspective meditation on moral justice.” Atr A Glance Film Reviews

“Clint Eastwood's second film as a director – and his first western – is a minor classic.” Filmcritic.com

“Clint Eastwood is the ultimate thinking man’s cinematic killing machine. “High Plains Drifter” is his spooky, dark, and vicious version of the Sergio Leone Man With No Name Spaghetti Westerns he once starred in, and a moody existential meditation on gunplay, revenge and karma…” Film Threat
