Today's viewer of this 1944 classic may well regard the “special effects” scenes of ghostly apparitios as not really as scary as the dvd cover promises. Nevertheless, the atmosphere of tension is sustained throughout, and Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey carry off the atmosphere convincingly. Well worth the viewing.
Every bit of this movie is of high quality.
Brother and sister join in buying a surprisingly low cost mansion on the cliffs of the Cornwall coast.
They soon discover that it is haunted by the daughter of the man who sold them the house. She had jumped off the nearby cliff.
They make friends with her daughter who the brother has fallen for. Though her grandfather has forbidden her to visit the house. She visits it anyway with nearly tragic results.
I couldn't find any flaw with this film.
