"Great album"
4 stars"

Shihad have had some great albums: FVEY is my favourite from them. This album has the perfect balance between ‘alt-metal and electronic rock’. I love the opening track The Final Year Of The Universe, which has a pure, melodic rock tone, and Sleepeater, which is just Shihad at their purest. My only least favourite album from Shihad is Love Is The New Hate, which is more punky, whereas this one and FVEY are more hard-rocky and described as the band's signature sounds. One of my favourite NZ rock albums.

Description

It’s often been said that you can’t please everyone in this world, but over the last 22 years, Shihad have pleased a great many.

Over that time, Shihad have chalked up quite a few enviable milestones: They’ve toured the world, supported their musical heroes AC/DC, had three #1 albums and hold the record for the most Top40 Single Chart appearances for a New Zealand artist.

You can’t talk about Shihad without mentioning their electrifying live shows.  Deservedly reputed as one of the most vital, experienced and energetic live acts around, they recently performed their seminal albums Killjoy and The General Electric in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.  The reviews were rapturous and applause thunderous.

While they once changed their name, they’ve never changed their lineup and have proven by example that they are by far one of the most determined and enduring names of our time.

Ah yes, Shihad have remained undeterred by the pitfalls of living and breathing rock ‘n roll. As it was from the very beginning, the music is both their livelihood and their lifeblood and is positively infused with their unwavering enthusiasm and excitement of the process. So it’s only apt that their eighth studio album would be called IGNITE.

Releasing this September, IGNITE is a fitting tribute to all that has gone and is yet to come. As the band celebrate this satisfying stage of their career, they show no signs of cooling off, experiencing yet another worthy high with the signing of a deal with Roadrunner Records in Australia.

Self produced by the band and mixed by Dave Sardy (Helmet, Slayer, RHCP, Oasis, NIN) and Tom Larkin, IGNITE harkens back to many of the original raw elements of Shihad. The rumbling and slow spiraling heavy groove unfolding and underpinning Jon Toogood’s beguiling vocal. Are they saying this is their greatest album yet? Not so much as it’s another great album from an artist that has continued to deliver the goods, year after sweat soaked year.

IGNITE is Shihad’s eighth album in a rich lineage of critically acclaimed releases - Churn, following by Killjoy (gold), Shihad (gold), The General Electric (double platinum), Pacifier (double platinum), Pacifier Live (gold), Love Is The New Hate (Platinum) and 2008’s Beautiful Machine (gold).

The first official single from IGNITE was the edgy and powerful ‘Sleepeater’ which rocketed to #1 on the NZ Rock Chart and after 10 weeks is still #1. The accompanying music video which was the brain child of celebrated director Sam Peacocke, boasted it’s own website www.sleepeater.co.nz and took on a life of it’s own with over 40,000 visitors since launch.

IGNITE features the second single ‘Lead or Follow’  and in addition to the standard CD, it is available as a limited special edition with O-Card that includes a bonus track, and 4 remixes by The Naked and Famous, Optimus Gryme, Kiljoy and Concord Dawn.
