"Yeah, I am Iron Man"
5 stars"

Two hours of awesomeness from beginning to end, director Jon Favreau has done an exceptional job with Iron Man. It has style, it's exciting, it's funny and is just damn cool. I mean who wouldn't want unlimited money, fame, ladies, private jets, and of course a kick-ass flying suit of golden armor? Robert Downey Jr.'s performance as Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, is excellent. Gwyneth Paltrow is the perfect Pepper Potts and Jeff Bridges is the dude. When I get older I want his beard. On top of a smart script with good dialogue, Robert Downey Jr. Actually ad libs most of his lines. I got the feeling everyone was just having fun making this movie. The Iron Man suit is visually stunning. It looks real; it manoeuvres just like you would expect it to, and it interacts with real world environments seamlessly. There is no horrible CGI or blue screen bull cough-georgelucas-cough. The film has a realistic and natural look about it that makes you believe there is no reason for the technology not to exist. I wouldn't be surprised to see a real life Iron Man flying around town, as opposed to say a guy in a Spiderman costume spinning webs from his wrists. Apart from being the ultimate Playboy, Tony Stark is an extremely successful engineering genius and CEO of his fathers company Stark Industries where Stark specialises in manufacturing weapons for the military. Stark travels to Afghanistan to demonstrate a new missile for the US Army called the Jericho. While in Afghanistan, Stark is captured by a terrorist called Raza (Faran Tahir) who orders Stark to recreate the Jericho. Stark tells him it can not be done as he doesn't have the necessary items to create such a missile. However Raza has a very large supply of weapons made by Stark Industries. Stark has no idea how Raza has managed to obtain so many of his weapons. Stark agrees to build the Jericho with the assistance of his cell mate Yinson (Shaun Toub) who saves Stark's life after he is knocked out from an explosion which fired shrapnel into his chest. Yinson could not remove some of the small shards of shrapnel so he implants a magnet powered by a car battery in to Starks chest to stop the small fragments travelling to his heart. Stark and Yinson begin to build the Jericho, but Stark has plans to build something else – a huge impenetrable iron suit fitted with missiles and flamethrowers. Stark also upgrades the magnet in his chest to sustain itself with its own regenerating power source – a technology known to Stark Industries but untested & unused until now. Tony's plan is to escape from Raza and his terrorist hordes and return to America. Tony's near death experience in Afghanistan changes his view on his purpose in life, and upon his return home he cancels his weapons program and opens a new secret program where he creates the ultimate titanium self powering Iron Man armoured suit. This is where the film really takes off, literally. I love this film, it is so much fun and it looks fantastic. I viewed it twice at the movies and I have it on Blu-ray and Dvd. I also bought the poster; now all I need is the T-Shirt.

Yeah, I am Iron Man

  • " Iron Man might feature a mesmerizing performance by Robert Downey Jr. and kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn't entirely save it from a weak villain or falling apart by the third act. " – Kaitlyn Booth
