Description

Since the early 1990s, long-term care policies have undergone significant transformations across OECD countries. In some countries these changes have responded to the introduction of major policy reforms while in others, significant transformations have come about through the accumulation of incremental policy changes. The book brings together evidence from over 15 years of care reform to examine changes in long-term care systems occurring in OECD countries. It discusses and compares key changes in national policies and examines the main successes and failures of recent reforms. Finally, it suggests possible policy strategies for the future in the sector. With contributions from a wide range of experts across EECD countries, this book is essential reading for academics, researchers and policy-makers in the field of long-term care policy.

Author Biography:

Jose-Luis Fernandez is Deputy Director and Principal Research Fellow in the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the London School of Economics, UK and co-Chair at International Long-Term Care Policy Network(ILPN). He analyses variability in local provision of social care services in England, its causes and consequences on local equity and efficiency, focusing on issues of territorial justice and intersystemic performance. He has also carried out extensive microeconomic analysis of equity and efficiency in the allocation of social and health services. Until recently, Jose-Luis was part of the Wanless Social Care review team, which analysed future funding requirements for long term care for older people in England. Cristiano Gori is visiting senior fellow at PSSRU at the London School of Economics, in London, Professor of social policy at the Catholic University and scientific supervisor on welfare policies at the Istituto per la Ricerca Sociale, in Milan (Italy). His main research interests are long-term care, child care and comparative social policy and has published extensively on these topics and has been a consultant to the Italian national government and to several regional and local governments. He has been involved in several comparative and European Union funded research projects and is welfare columnist in Il Sole-24Ore (the leading financial and public policy newspaper in Italy). Raphael Wittenberg, Principal Research Fellow, Personal Social Services Research Unit, London School of Economics and Political Science, leads a programme of research on financing long-term care.
