Murders in the Rue Morgue
Murders in the Rue Morgue is a 1971 American horror film, an adaptation of the Edgar Allan Poe story of the same name.
Horrible fantasy mingles with horrifying fact in the story of a theatre of the macabre on the Rue Morgue in Paris. Madeleine (Christine Kaufmann), the wife of the theatre owner who also appears in the companys horror plays is plagued by a recurrent dream which re-enacts the current stage play.
She dreams she is attacked by an unknown axe-man and is rescued by a near-human ape. In the real play her husband, Cesar Charron (Jason Robards) is beheaded in a struggle with an ape as a gory conclusion to each performance. But then the company is beset by a brutal reality as one of the performers is found murdered.
