"Keep the tissues close"
4 stars"

The movie was great, the characters were how I pictured them and they kept it quite close to how the book was. But without spoiling it, the ending is different which it was stopped me from selecting excellent. However looking past that, it was a good tear jerker without being too melodramatic. It was a great way to finish the weekend – paired with chocolate and my fuzzy slippers.

Not a dry eye in the house. Definately a DVD to watch in company, just too sad to watch on your own. Really gets you thinking too!

This film was done beautifully. All the actors portrayed their characters well. Definately keep the tissues on hand.

Description

My Sister's Keeper

Based on the bestselling book from Jodi Picoult, “My Sister’s Keeper” reveals surprising truths that challenge one’s perceptions of family love and loyalty and give new meaning to the definition of healing.

Sara (CAMERON DIAZ) and Brian Fitzgerald’s (JASON PATRIC) life with their young son and their two‐year old daughter, Kate, is forever altered when they learn that Kate has leukemia. The parents’ only hope is to conceive another child, specifically intended to save Kate’s life. For some, such genetic engineering would raise both moral and ethical questions; for the Fitzgeralds, Sara in particular, there is no choice but to do whatever it takes to keep Kate alive. And what it takes is Anna (ABIGAIL BRESLIN). Incensed upon learning that she was brought into this world for the singular purpose of prolonging the life of her ailing older sister, the young girl ultimately decides to sue her parents for the rights to her own body.

Critic Reviews:

  • " [I]ntelligent, moving and even occasionally funny, although you might want to bring along a few tissues just in case. " – Daniel M. Kimmel
  • " Bring the tissues. This film works. " – Jim Schembri
  • " Sometimes, a sad story isn't just a manipulative venture that makes you cry. Sometimes, as in ‘The Notebook,’ it's a tale well told that brings out honest emotions. Sometimes, it's in a movie such as ‘My Sister's Keeper.’ " – Linda Cook
