Description

Night Walks is the debut album for UK collective Hidden Orchestra, on Tru Thoughts (Alice Russell, Quantic).

Formerly known as Joe Acheson Quartet, the new Hidden Orchestra combine two live drummers & deep basslines with strong jazz & classical influences, to make cinematic, emotive, percussive, next generation music using traditional instrumentation & organic samples.

The driving force behind the Edinburgh-based band is the acute artistic vision of Joe Acheson, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, composer, music producer & producer/presenter of music documentaries for the BBC.

The band may occupy a musical stream all their own, but close comparisons would include artists as diverse as Aphex Twin, Debussy, Xploding Plastix, Radiohead, Squarepusher, Madlib & Gene Krupa.

Hidden Orchestra’s genuine cross-genre appeal can be seen from their winning of the guitar-band-dominated TBreak competition to plat at T in the Park 2008 – at the same time as being listed in the A-Z of the greatest Scottish jazz artists of all time by Radio Scotland.

Night Walks features a selection of distinguished Scottish jazz/folk/classical guest musicians.
