"A documentary made in Sheffield UK, by a NZer"
4 stars"

I never paid much attention to Pulps albums till in the late 2010s…around 2011 and 2013 onwards. Previously to that I only knew they were a brit pop band that were not doing much these days, and featured in the 2003 Live forever britpop movie which I didn't see till 2006. As a film this movie and documentary is shot very well. Interesting interviews with different characters in Sheffield…and also the band Pulp, who are all now in their late 40s by the time this film was made in 2012. Pulp have not done a record since 2001, and it remains that way, apart from one new song they did in celebration of this film. Its a film about people not just the band, which makes it a unique kind of documentary, I think it will age better that way, if it had just been written about the band only, although more insight into the band doesn't matter too much. It also features people in groups and meetings singing Pulps music, and discussing it at lectures in university. Its not a film you'll rewatch over again, maybe every 8 months or a year. But its quite well done, the shots the stories of peoples from Pulps original place of beginning.

If you know the bands music or just want an interesting documentary to watch, definitely take the time to see it.

Description

PULP: A Film About Life, Death & Supermarkets is a 2013 British music documentary on DVD, directed by Florian Habicht.

Pulp found fame on the world stage in the 1990’s with anthems including ‘Common People’ and ‘Disco 2000’. 25 years (and 10 million album sales) later, they return to Sheffield for their last UK concert. Giving a career best performance exclusive to the film, the band share their thoughts on fame, love, mortality – & car maintenance. Director Florian Habicht (Love Story) weaves together the band’s personal offerings with dream-like specially-staged tableaux featuring ordinary people recruited on the streets of Sheffield. Pulp is a music-film like no other – by turns funny, moving, life-affirming & (occasionally) bewildering.
