The Plantronics Rig is a well thought out product with many useful features. The feature that I enjoy the most is the two microphones with the boom microphone for gaming and the in-line microphone for mobile use. This makes them easy to use for listening to music and watching TV shows.

The Rig mixer is especially handy for playing games where hearing your team-mates is important. I have found it very handy for mixing clear voice with just the right amount of game sound. It also allows me to listen to music from my iPod or mobile and mix that in so I can have a balance of all three but easily mute the music or game sound to ensure clear communications.

The headset sounds great no matter what I have connected it to. The rig mixer plugs in using USB for power and a 3.5mm headphone jack for the game audio. It comes with an RCA piggyback adaptor so you can plug the Rig mixer in to work with almost any audio device such as DVD players and TVs as well as Xbox 360 and PS3. The mixer also has a 2.5mm Xbox live chat cable for connecting up to an Xbox controller whilst PS3 connects via USB for the chat audio.

The USB plug when connected to the computer provides the device with one input and one output channel. The microphone sound quality is good and the extra sound channel makes it easy to set up the dedicated voice channel for mixing.

I was looking forward to the Rig when I first ordered it and it has not let me down. It feels comfortable to wear for long gaming/audio sessions and has a solid build and feel to it. I would recommend this headset to anyone looking for a hybrid headset for both music and gaming on many platforms.

Firstly – Boom! This headset hits you with some serious bass. Sound quality is fantastic, and I think beats my previous Tritton headset.

Build quality is above average, but time will tell. The RIG mixer doesn't feel all that solid, but should last. My concern is that the USB cable, and phone jack cable are not replaceable. However in today's throwaway culture, you'd probably just by another/diffe­rent set.

My main gripe is the connectivity. If you want to utilise the optical function, you need to keep in mind the following:

1. You need an optical cable, as one isn't included.
2. You'll need an extremely long optical cable if you want to keep the RIG mixer close to you (think at least 3m).

Therefore keep that in mind when considering prices. If like me, you connect to the TV via HDMI, there aren't many other headsets out there that have alternative connections to RCA.

One further point in closing is that if the optical output on your Xbox is set to Dolby Surround, it'll need to be changed to Stereo to get any kind of output sound.

I've only been using these for a day. I love them so much it does exactly what I wanted I love being able to listen to the game I'm playing and music as well. I have upgraded from a Bluetooth headset that you could only hear the chat on. Also it's very easy to set up I have mine running through my PS3 after googling how to allow the PS3 to recognise the headset it was all good.i deffinatly recommend this set !!! Though the head band could be more padded it doesn't really matter as I don't use them 24/7. I don't regret buying them at all and even better I recieved them within a day. If you are wanting these and don't have the coloured cords anymore like me (I use hdmi) you will need a optical cable. Well Done Mighty ape!!!
