The songs on this album have been specially selected by Caitlin Smith as beautiful expressions of emotional honesty. Caitlin is one of Auckland’s best known jazz vocalists and vocal coaches.
The nine tracks on Stories to Tell were recorded at The Lab in Auckland, and alongside Caitlin (vocals) the performers are Alan Brown (Hammond organ), Mark Lockett (drums/percussion) and Paul Van Ross (saxophone/flute). Steve Garden worked his mixing and mastering magic to shape the sound of this very ‘live’, single-take based selection of songs.
Stories to Tell: The Thorndon Project is funded by the Office For Disability Issues as part of a campaign called Think Differently – changing attitudes and behaviour towards disabled people and is dedicated to PVINZ. PVINZ is an organisation that provides much needed support, information exchange, advocacy and a forum for shared knowledge and experience between New Zealand parents raising visually impaired children.
