I bought the first Hunger Games book at the same time the movie hype was building up and I wanted to know what all the fuss was. I think it was totally the best choice to read the book first before seeing the movie, if you did it the other way around I don't think you would have gotten quite as much out of the movie.

I think the strongest feature of the Hunger Games novels is the fact that Katniss is a strong female character that women of all ages can aspire to but isn't so over the top “girl power” that she becomes off putting to men. Suzanne Collins has written a female character with the perfect balance. Very reminiscence of Joss Weadon's Buffy.

I loved the speed at which the book read, it was exceptionally well written and all of the characters were well formed and not just caricatures of people.

All in all simply an AWESOME book!

I've started to read a chapter of this book and it is quite interesting. I highly recommend this for everyone.

Description

The New York Times bestselling The Hunger Games, with an all-new cover from the major motion picture!

The astonishing bestseller is now a fantastic movie. Here is the original novel with new movie artwork on the cover. (Original cover version also available.)
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
