"This movie gave great insight to AlanTuring and Bletchley Park."

Although I had an idea about how the Enigma Code was cracked I didn't know the about the backgrounds and personalities behind Alan Turing and his team. There were several flashbacks back to Alan's school days which showed he wasn't exactly a hit with his schoolmates.

He was only friends really with one who died on him! He was a clever loner and a homosexual, not something you told the world in those days.

In spite of this he did form a relationship with Joan Clarke but only to suit his own agenda in order to crack the code.

Chance happenings in the pub also proved helpful here.

The movie was well acted and Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightly repectively were aptly cast as Alan Turing and Joan Clarke.

Even if you are not into cracking codes or mathematics the movie is still worth watching to see the human drama behind the project.

I totally recommend this Blu-Ray disk which is high resolution indeed!

"A great dramatic story wrapped around historic events"

While playing fast and loose with the facts (very similar to “The Kings Speech”) this is a well-acted and written story set in the era of war and spies and cryptography. Benedict Cumberpatch really sells the character he is given, and Kiera Knightly is more than a match for him. Mark Strong provides a good supporting character.

Description

The Imitation Game

The Imitation Game is a 2014 historical thriller film directed by Morten Tyldum, with a screenplay by Graham Moore loosely based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges.

The Imitation Game is the remarkable real-life story of Alan Turing. The English mathematician played a key role in breaking German codes during World War II. In 1952 Turing was prosecuted for ‘gross indecency’ after reporting his young lover to the police for breaking into Turing’s home.

That prosecution was really for homosexuality. Convicted, Turing was given a choice of two penalties: imprisonment, or chemical treatment to reduce his sexual urges. He chose the latter, and was made impotent by the treatment. His security clearance was also revoked, and he could not continue his cryptographic work with the British government. In 1954 Turing was found dead of cyanide poisoning, and his death was ultimately ruled a suicide.

  • " The film deserves credit for pointing viewers in the direction of such a compelling individual and historical drama. " – David Walsh
  • " Manages a surmounting level of intrigue from both its deft performances and its shuffling narrative of past, present, and post-war events. " – Mike Massie
