At first glance here on the website it may not look like your cup of tea,
which is what I thought. Then I checked out a few Youtube videos and
I thought it looked interesting and at $24.95 it's no biggy if it's not that
great. But guess what. Yeah I love this game!!
It's a really well balanced game with a plentiful story that does not
compromise combat, great graphics for it's time and if you have a good gaming
pc like me the visuals are even better cranked right up using the Nvidia control
panel overrides, also having a Creative X-fi Extreme Gamer sound card and above
to make use of EAX technologies the audio effects are awesome. And for Windows
Vista and 7 you'll need to download Creative alchemy to enable EAX under these
operating systems.
Now more about the game itself. You are Geralt Of Rivia, a Witcher, a slayer
of monsters and protector of Humans who was injured badly in combat and suffers
from amnesia. Because he suffers from amnesia Geralt must re-learn his combat
skills, knowlege of herbs, potions and magic giving you the aspects of upgrading
his abilities.
The maps are quite big with plenty of quests and achievements and dialouge
which aren't boring and cheesy. The dialouge segments are a pick a path type of
story gameplay adding to the replay factor as there are crucial parts of the
game in which what you choose to say will determin the way the story plays out.
For example you will be forced to choose who's side you take either “The
Scoie'tel” an army of elves and dwarves fighting for freedom, “The Order Of
The Flaming Rose” or to remain neutral which is a Witchers decree. These
3 paths are the major factor in the replay value, but also you will find
yourself doing things differently each time you play it. I'm on my second
playthrough now. And I can tell you now it took a long time to finish the first
round so you get more than your moneys worth.
I'll leave it at that now. If your into RPG games just buy it, play it and if
you like it then pre-order the Witcher 2. You can't go wrong.
