"Very interesting history!"

Loved the fact that it was a true story and that the little guy won against the Goliath!! Such a tragic part of the world history.

Excellent Helen Mirren performance

"A very moving story"

I loved Helen Mirren as the lead in this story, she was able to portray the full gamut of emotions this wonderful lady experienced trying to recover property that was stolen from her family, even battling the Austrian Government. Just goes to show that ‘experience’ in lawyers isn't always the right way to go.

Description

The Woman in Gold

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren stars in the incredible true story of Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee who is forced to flee Vienna during World War II. Decades later, determined to salvage some dignity from her past, Maria has taken on a mission to reclaim a painting the Nazis stole from her family: the famous Lady In Gold, a portrait of her beloved Aunt Adele. Partnering with an inexperienced but determined young lawyer (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks on an epic journey for justice 60 years in the making.

Critic Reviews:

  • " Woman in Gold is just but one story in the ongoing battle for the return of stolen artwork during the Holocaust. " – Danielle Solzman
  • " If there's a weak link, it is the script, which drifts toward tedious at times–something hard to imagine with this story. In the end, the performances and the subject create an inspirational film. " – Debbie Baldwin
  • " A courtroom drama proves to be a stately change of pace for Reynolds. " – Leigh Paatsch
