"Good but could have been great"
4 stars"

Sadly this game is let done by its poor AI and coding, sometimes the guards can be looking in your direction and be very close and they can't see you!

While it is an open world it gets repetitive, and I understand the logic behind the constant night setting but it gets a bit tiresome.

It gets really annoying when characters constantly repeat the same sayings through out the game.

It gets frustrating when you can climb some high environments and then not be allowed to climb something that should be easier to climb.

In summary, a good idea and story but let down by its implementation.

"Great gameplay until The Bug breaks everything"

I used to love Thief in the 90s, and this version didn't disappoint. If you liked Dishonored, then you're going to love Thief as well. The gameplay is great and the different challenges according to your playing mode mean that there's a reason to do multiple playthroughs, trying out various tactics. Background convos are good, but very repetitive. The overall feel of the game is dark and gloomy, and the new moving lights (guards carrying torches) make hiding more of a challenge than back in the day. There's also Assassins Creed-like collections in the base, and the movement along beams is very Prince of Persia like (or maybe AC as well). For the gameplay alone, I would give this game 4–5 stars. Probably 5, because I like the sneakiness required and the graphics. However, all that fun came to a sudden end when I wanted to start level 5. I proceeded to the starting point in a boat, headed to a new location – and after the game had loaded, I was crouching behind crates in a well-known part of the city. All save games were wiped and no matter where I tried to go, whenever I wanted to leave the map, I ended up – you guessed it – crouching behind those crates. I have tried restarting, replaying another accessible chapter and every other trick the internet had to offer, but no avail, the second part of the game is inaccessible. This issue has been widely discussed in forums over 2 years ago and is prone to happen at chapters 2, 5 and 8. There seem to be some potential fixes with setting the xbox time/date to the future and not connecting to Live, but that didn't work for me either. Wasted money considering Eidos haven't patched this game breaker in such a long time. Massive disappointment. I guess it was lucky I got at least half-way through before it broke; had it happened at level 2, it would have been a 1 star.
