This original research will be of practical use to researchers and scholars in the areas of American literature, American studies, film history, Broadway history, and gender studies. This book will be a comprehensive bibliography of primary and secondary works for American author Alice Duer Miller (1874-1942), celebrated author, screenwriter, and leading advocate for women's suffrage. Miller's "Are Women People?" is included in the Library of Congress' "Votes for Women: Selections from the National American Woman Suffrage Association Collection, 1848-1921", in American Memory. Miller's stories and novels were published and/or serialized in magazines such as "Harper's", "Ladies' Home Journal", "Saturday Evening Post", "Scribner's Magazine", and "Woman's Home Companion". Miller wrote or had her work adapted for five Broadway plays, including "Roberta" (1933), with music by Jerome Kern. The play was adapted for the film "Roberta" (1935), starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Miller's book-length poem "The White Cliffs" (1940) was adapted for the film "The White Clffs of Dover" (1944), starring Irene Dunne. Miller wrote or had her work adapted for several dozen Hollywood films. She published forty-three books, including poetry, short stories, novels, and plays.
