Description

Brooklyn Wainwright's sister Savannah, a renowned chef, wants to give her ex-beau, famous chef Baxter Cromwell, a special gift to celebrate the opening of his new restaurant. She asks Brooklyn to restore an old English cookbook Baxter gave her when they were students at the Cordon Bleu in Paris. While Brooklyn uses the old recipes to prepare a few dishes for her boyfriend Derek, with mostly ghastly results, she notices handwritten notes and symbols on the pages, but can't figure out their significance At the opening night party, Savannah proudly presents the cookbook to an astonished and delighted Baxter, but soon afterwards, Baxter is found stabbed to death and the cookbook is missing. Is it a case of a robbery gone wrong? Or was there a more personal motive? With the police honing in on Savannah as the prime suspect, Brooklyn is eager to clear her sister's name, but discouraged to learn how many people had a bone to pick with Baxter, and a reason for killing him. Brooklyn will have to turn the heat up on the investigation before Savannah's goose is cooked... It's a recipe for disaster when bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright is asked to restore an antique cookbook in this novel in the New York Times bestselling Bibliophile Mystery series. Brooklyn's sister Savannah and her former culinary school classmates all became successful chefs, especially Savannah's ex-boyfriend Baxter Cromwell, who went on to culinary superstardom. When he invites the old gang to the gala opening of his new restaurant in San Francisco, Savannah asks Brooklyn to restore a rare antique cookbook as a present for him. The night they all gather, Baxter is found dead, the cookbook has disappeared, and Savannah becomes the suspect du jour. But Brooklyn knows her sister is innocent, and there are plenty of old grudges simmering among this backstabbing bunch. Now she'll have to turn up the heat on the investigation before Chef Savannah finds herself slinging hash in a prison cafeteria.
