Description

A Fool and His Money is the satirical story of a wealthy American who purchases a large property in Germany. Upon moving into this ancient feudal building, the man discovers a beautiful and enigmatic woman to be living in one of the property's wings. At first wary, the man comes to fall in love with the woman, and a relationship begins. The story is both a romance and a tale of grand adventure, and contains both comedic and dramatic elements. McCutcheon's novel is a pleasant read that is not without its challenges. While written in the twentieth century, the language seems born of an older time period, and can be confounding for the reader unaccustomed to the grammar and colloquialisms of the day. While the plot generally moves along steadily, there are periods where the pace of the novel slows quite dramatically. The satirical nature of the work ultimately makes it an enjoyable read, and McCutcheon's quick wit will keep readers on their toes. Author George Barr McCutcheon was a popular novelist of the early twentieth century. He is most well known for a series of novels based in the fictional country of Graustark, but readers can now enjoy a slightly lesser known work of fiction from this well known American author. A Fool and His Money is a romantic comedy of the early twentieth century and will appeal to readers that thirst for satire. McCutcheon has crafted a clever novel of clever characters, and the clever reader will certainly be entertained.
