Description

The fourteen short stories in Betsey Barber Hampton's collection, A Time and a Place, offer a fresh new voice in southern fiction. Hampton, who began to write in her eighties, brings her charming perspective to coming of age in North Carolina in the mid 1900's. Like Hampton's acclaimed first collection, Full Circle, these stories reflect an innocence and humor unique to her personal experience. Hampton draws unforgettable, often feisty characters from memory and family history, with an emphasis on the importance of generational continuity. All her stories leave the reader satiated with a feast of riches, yet hungry for more.

Author Biography:

About the Author Betsey Barber Hampton lives in Davidson, North Carolina. In her early years she was happiest in front of an easel, paint brush in hand. She was interested in anything ART and loved showing her works at Merrill-Jennings Galleries. Now in her eighties and handicapped, Betsey enjoys writing short stories and doing genealogy. "These short stories are a result of recalling people and places from the past. A desire to trace my roots led to researching my ancestors back to England, Ireland, and Scotland. I have tried to imagine who they were and what their lives were like. Some of these ghosts reappeared as voices in my head telling me what to write. These stories are a tribute to them and a way of saying 'Thanks' for sending me down this path. I wish I could have known you."
