Norman Phillips sets aside the assumption that lighting must be done with a specific number of lights placed in a given position and modified in a prescribed way. Rather than subscribing to the theory that lighting must be done in a textbook fashion, he uses traditional lighting setups as a springboard for radically altering the lighting effects to produce fine-art portraits that subjects can regard as art and hang in their homes as highly personal pieces that suit their unique home decor.

Norman Phillips is the recipient of numerous fellowships and accolades for photographic achievement. He has presented nearly 200 seminars and workshops in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He is a frequent contributor to magazines and newsletters, including "Master Photographer," "Professional Image Maker, Rangefinder," and "WPPI Monthly." He is the author of "Lighting Techniques for High Key Portrait Photography," "Lighting Techniques for Low Key Portrait Photography," "Professional Posing Techniques for Wedding and Portrait Photographers, " and "Wedding and Portrait Photographers' Legal Handbook." He lives in Highland Park, Illinois.
