Description

This work investigates a number of central issues in the syntax of adverbs with special reference to Greek in the light of Kayne's Antisymmetry Hypothesis. It looks at the problems that the syntax of adverbs raises for syntacticians and contains a brief introduction to antisymmetry and the Minimalist Program. The author advances an analysis according to which adverbs are licensed as specifiers of functional projections in the clausal domain. He also illustrates the functional categories present in the Greek clausal structure and offers a number of arguments in favour of dissolving the Greek complementizer layer into a number of projections.
