During the past four vears an opportunity has been afforded me by the Department of Science and Art of remodelling the subjects of this work, which is intended as a text-book for the Masters in training, and as a medium through which the Engineer, the Mechanist, the Architect, the Builder, the Mason, and the Bricklayer may acquire' a knowledge of the rules and principles governing that description of drawing by which their Operations are directed when constructing a machine or erect ing a building.
