The reception of Mediterranean Antiquity heritage is one of the dominant research areas in contemporary classical studies. This issue has constituted the scope of the conference Reception of Ancient Myths in Ancient, Modern and Postmodern Culture, which took place at the University of Łódź (Poland) in November 2013. The volume consists of the selected articles based on the conference papers. They are divided into the main chapters: Literature, Visual and Performing Arts and Philosophy as well as Anthropology. The authors consider different methods of reception of ancient myths focusing on various cultural phenomena: literature, fine arts, theatre, cinema and pop culture.

Author Biography:

Małgorzata Budzowska is an Assistant Professor at the Chair of Classical Philology of the University of Łódź (Poland). She holds a PhD in Classical Philology and a MA in Theatre Studies. Her main research interests include the reception of ancient tragedies in contemporary theatre, modern and postmodern adaptation of ancient dramas as well as the theory of emotions. She is the author of the monograph Phaedra. Ethics of Emotions in the Tragedies of Euripides, Seneca and Racine. Jadwiga Czerwińska is an Associate Professor at the University of Łódź (Poland) and Head of the Chair of Ancient Drama and Theatre at the Catholic University of Lublin (Poland). Besides she is Head of the Laboratory of Reception of Ancient Literature. Her main research interests lie in the tragedies of Euripides and in Greek philosophy. Currently, she is involved in the research project Ancient Drama and Theatre in the Works of Scholiasts.
