"THIS is where the official Angel: Season 6 starts."
5 stars"

Arguably the last episode of Angel ended on a cliffhanger, opening up unanswered questions of what would happen next. Highly speculated was who survived the apocalyptic battle, what was to happen in Season 6, and if there was going to be any continuation resolving that. It has been a long time coming to fruition, but this is an official continuation to tie up loose ends, just not all at once. There will always be those who wish this was onscreen, eventhough there are advantages only a comic can explore such as no set budget restrictions. Had Angel not been cancelled and still on TV, the story may have suffered a boxed-in complex and recycled ruined sets, compromising epicness. The showing of scattered locations around LA gives a more widespread spatial depth, helping show how sinister Wolfram & Hart's post apocalyptic chaos is on a larger scale. It is early days for this series, but this first issue delivers and feels very much like the show, with added benefits of a comic. Despite fan myths that Buffy would sweep in to save the day, there is nothing here to suggest a slayer armada.

Did Angel slay that dragon? There is a surprise twist that has to be read to believe. Wolfram & Hart are still evil incarnate, capable of sinister torture to Angel and the rest of LA, because of his defiance. Without giving away any real spoilers this issue does not pick up straight after the alley battle. Shown is the cause and effect from a different angle showing time has passed. Angel of course survived to an extent, if he is to feature in his own comic. Spike? who knows. Illyria who was the most resilient is a big girl who can take care of herself, so it is conceivable if she lived. Depending on if you heard Amy Acker let future plans slip, Gunn's fate would be nothing new or slightly disturbing. Wesley, who would not have been killed had Angel not been cancelled is still very much dead, but being dead never stopped anyone in the Buffy/Angelverse. However not all the familiar faces appear but a lot of new and older recurring characters do. Not only has each characters worlds have changed, LA is not even part of the world anymore. The exact status of LA is seems to be a masked conspiracy Wolfram & Hart are obviously behind.
