"Deeply complex but satisfying."
5 stars"

This a fantastic game, whether you play cooperatively with a group of friends or even by yourself on a winter's evening. The essential premise of the game is to use investigator characters to prevent the Great Old Ones from infesting the world. Because each game involves such an enormous amount of variety, the game has an extraordinarily high replay value that makes it worth every cent.

Components are of excellent quality (there are over 700 pieces!) and the rules are beautifully presented. The board and all of the cards are fantastically illustrated (like the box art) lending the game an incredible Lovecraftian flavor. Highly recommended for all lovers of Lovecraftian horror and/or engaging cooperative board games.

"Hard to pickup (initially), easy to get deeply engaged"

Arkham Horror has a lot of rules and things to think about while playing, yet the stages of the game are straight forward and easy to follow with common sense :) very fun game – very difficult to win. LOTS of monsters everywhere, but that's what makes it fun ;) great game to play alone… if that's what you're into. Time ranges from 2 hours (excl. setup) to well over 4 hours!

"Great theme, good co-op gameplay"

The theme of this game is incredible, particularly if you like horror. It captures the feel of being constantly in trouble very well. The sole flaw is that you can somewhat learn to beat the game, I'm told the expansions fix this.

Description

The End is Near!

The year is 1926. The place is Arkham, Massachusetts. Gateways to places horrible beyond imagination are opening up all over town, releasing hideous creatures into the streets to stalk the night. Worse yet, if enough of these gates open up, then a creature of unfathomable power will be unleashed on the world.

Pitted against these overwhelming odds is a small band of investigators determined to beat back the uncaring forces of the universe. They'll have to delve deep into the mysteries of the Mythos and use all of their skills, weapons, and spells if they want to have even a slim chance of success.

The classic game of Lovecraftian adventure returns in a new edition after almost 20 years! Players can select from 16 unique playable investigator characters, each with unique skills & abilities. Square off against the diabolical servants of 8 Ancient Ones, including Ithaqua, Hastur, and the terrible Cthulhu!
