Description

Jocelyn Duncan epitomizes the possibilities of a special needs child when parents recognize and nurture their child's talent and potentials. Jocelyn developed a passion for drawing at the age of four, and at the age of eleven, she authored and illustrated her first book, Tember, the White Tiger. In 2002, she won third place in Black Writers On Tour writers' competition. Despite being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which is on the milder end of the Autism Spectrum Disorder, Jocelyn graduated from the Port of Los Angeles Charter High School with a diploma--not a certificate of completion. Jocelyn's parents learned not the hard way, but instead, the easy way of maximizing their child's gift/talent. They did this through their working together, their faith in God and their faith in their child's potential. Not only has their journey delivered a master artist to the world, it has brought hope to all special needs children and their parents. They had no manual to guide them--they mentally wrote it as they experienced living and working with a child with Asperger's Syndrome. Jocelyn, a digital artist, has started her own publishing company and penned her second book at the age of twenty-five. As you turn the pages of her book/gallery, Art of Imagination, you will agree that her illustrations are breathtaking. Jocelyn has continued to hone her skills by taking traditional art and digital art classes while pursuing a certification in Media Arts-Digital Design at Los Angeles Harbor College. She specializes in drawing PokEmon characters, animalized characters, and landscapes. Her goal is to one day animate and create a video game with her characters.
