"An Epic Story Told Through Great Illustrations"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

I became a fan of this series through the anime adaptation, so this colossal edition of the manga is my first purchase of this title. I'd been reading the official digital releases from Crunchyroll's manga catalogue, and decided to buy it physically. Initially, I planned to buy the separate volumes, until I stumbled across this gem. I don't know why I didn't buy this sooner. I love how big this edition is – the size really brings out the greatness of the illustrations. The coloured pages are a fantastic bonus! I'm thrilled about the extra chapter included – Ilse's Journal, a great side story that adds to the mystery of a particular canon character. The only thing I would've preferred for this book is if it had a hardback binding due to its size, but other than that, this edition AND the story itself is amazing!

Description

THE COLOSSAL EPIC BEGINS!

This volume includes Vol. 1–5 of Attack on Titan in an extra-large 7×10.5-inch (approx 18×27cm) size, with 15 COLOR PAGES never published in any other book – not even in Japan!

For eons, humans ruled the natural world. But a century ago, everything changed when the Titans appeared. Giant, grotesque parodies of the human form, these sexless monsters consumed all but a few thousand human beings, who took refuge behind giant walls. Today, the threat of the Titans is a distant memory, and a boy named Eren yearns to explore the world beyond the wall. But what began as a childish dream will become an all-too-real nightmare when a Titan finally knocks a hole in the wall, and humanity is once again on the brink of extinction.

User reviews

“If you like the series in general this is a great addition to your manga collection. The larger size compliments the story and makes the titans feel even more menacing. It would have been nice for this to be a hard back binding to better support the books weight.” red

“An impossible-to-put-down page-turner for both fans of the anime and newcomers alike!…For those familiar with the anime, it covers up until some point in Episode 17 (out of 25) and includes Ilse's story, and OVA episode detailing a character who doesn't show up in the main story but has an important impact nonetheless. It shows how faithful the anime was to the source material, with the exception of putting the story of Episode 3 where it chronologically belongs as the manga has those events as a flashback later on. Otherwise, it's completely like the anime which is a testament to how great of a story the manga is on its own. The anime is so strong because the manga was so strong…” thedean
