Description

Excerpt from Aus Goldenen Tagen: Studien Und Abenteuer As could easily be surmised, this friend of nature sprang from healthy rural surroundings: Born on June 25, 1842, as the first son of the village parson, Heinrich Alexander Seidel, in Perlin near Renzow, grand-duchy of Mecklenburg - Schwerin, he passed an exceedingly happy youth, to the praise of which he has devoted the very 'choicest chapters of his autobiography, Von Perlz'n nac/z Berlin. With capital humor he narrates there, how in the dense shrubbery of the old-fashioned par somage garden, as well as in the neighboring woods, and on the desert island in the adjacent lake, he enacted Robinson Cru soe; how as a colonist in the wild West he built his block house; or, hidden from all eyes and resting on the floor of his Wigwam, impersonated Uncas, the last of the Mohicans, while smoking dry potato leaves from a reed pipe of his own make.
