This film was one of my favourites at the international film festival a couple of years back and i've been keeping an eye out to see when it would be released. Sadly, it's never made it into the stores so if you want it, Mighty Ape are pretty much your only hope. This is the tale of a young Jewish girl who was quietly hiding out the war and persecution in an idyllic farmhouse, when a stray bomb from an airraid destroys her sanctuary and she is left out on her own trying to survive in the final months of the war. Desperate for work she joins the resistance and, as a comely wench, is deployed to seduce a Nazi officer to try and extract information from her (to pass as a non-jew she has to bleach ALL her hair – a very heavy scene as she prepares herself to bed the enemy). Twists, turns, betrayals, good guys who turn out to be bad, bad guys who turn out to be not-so-bad-after-all ...... And then the war ends. And our heroine is labelled a collaborator and her true ordeal starts as she finds the fight for survival and dignity didn't end when the Allies rolled in to town. Special features include an average ‘making of’ and a reasonably interesting commentary, but sadly reviews of the European release tell me there were better special features to be had on the other version of this release. Still, engaging, watchable and enjoyable, and you won't see the twists and turns coming.
