Generally acknowledged as “the King of the Slide Guitar” among blues music enthusiasts around the world, the singer, guitarist and composer Elmore James remains an important musical influence half a century after his early death.
While perhaps denied some of the honours and accolades bestowed on his fellow musical contemporaries, James’ rich musical legacy is still highly rated, and blues music fans everywhere – including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Jimi Hendrix – have recognised his significant contributions. On Elmore James’ gravestone, in his Mississippi hometown, the inscription records that he left behind “a powerful legacy that will remain forever in American music”. Doubtless the music of the “King of the Slide Guitar” will continue to be heard for countless years to come, and this new collection is a welcome reminder of his classic Delta Blues style.
