Description

Bradley Beach recounts the history of the popular summer resort that lies between Ocean Grove and Avon-by-the-Sea. Bradley Beach originated when two men visiting the shore one weekend in 1870 decided to build a town. By the early 1900s, it had become a destination for people from northern New Jersey and New York City. Vintage postcards-many of them rare-show the hotels and inns that issued a new series of cards for each new season; the restaurants that handed out cards to diners; and the beach, streets, and public buildings that beckoned visitors to come.

Author Biography:

Shirley Ayres, a professional librarian, is the appointed historian for Bradley Beach, a member of the Bradley Beach Historical Society executive board, a writer of historical articles for the local newspapers, and the coauthor of Arcadia's Images of America book on Bradley Beach. Troy Bianchi, born and raised in Bradley Beach, serves on the executive board of the historical society and as a member of the beach patrol. For Bradley Beach, the two authors collected from many sources postcards that reflect the flavor, diversity, and growth of this urban ocean-side community.
