Is this supposed to be a simulation of the chaos of real battle- I ask
because I have no idea what's going on. There are people shooting, people
yelling, people running all over the map (except where I am, next to the
objective, you know, over here guys, guys…).
It reminds me of one of those games kids play with lots of yelling and
squaling and laughing, where no-one seems to agree on the rules yet everyone is
having a good time.
Initially I hated Brink. I stuck with it and learnt that the problem is not
with the game, it is just that I am used to slow, sneaky, stealth shooters.
Brink is about as far as you can get from slow and sneaky.
It has frenetic action, interesting visuals, cool accents, and enough of a
story to hang the game on but no more. It has a class system. That means you
have a role in the team but you can change this role very quickly if needed (if
someone disconnects, for example).
It is a team game. Lone wolves are going to spend a lot of time trudging back
from respawn points. Unfortunately, the AI team members are a bit flaky. Then
again, so are the opposing team, so single-player isn't too bad.
However, single-player is not why you should buy this. If you want to play on
your own, get Deus Ex (extremely highly recommended). This is a team shooter.
Just like the noisy kids, you need to play with others to have the
best fun.
