"Matchmaking and network play is broken. Avoid for now."

This game would be enjoyable if you could play with the full multiplayer compliment of 8×8 players. However I've never seen that happen. You will typically end up playing against bots and a small compliment of humans, possibly with lag.

"An ambitious I.P. That unfortunately fell short."
1 stars"

Like many other gamers, I fell in love with the idea of Brink. Eating up all the trailers, developer diaries and such. The idea of smooth parkour-style movement, jump-in & out combat between online & offline play and a solid single player experience… Who could resist-

Unfortunately, this is one of those fresh I.P.s that falls short of what it sells.

The S.M.A.R.T. System is great when it works and alternatively frustrating when it gets you stuck in strange areas or ledges.

The story- You might as well forget it. It boils down to 2 factions fighting themselves in arenas with objectives. if you've played Halo Reach, it's sort of like Invasion with larger teams.

That can't be bad, right- Until you realise that you MUST play with human teammates and because of the netcode at the moment… It's near-nigh impossible. If you decide to try go solo with A.I. Squad mates, you will find yourself in a pit of misery. They act like complete idiots, completely ignoring the task at hand, usually not helping when you are incapacitated and doing strange things. (Like standing on a handrail spinning in circles while you get slaughtered by the entire opposing team!)

But hey, you have the ability to unlock customisations and upgrades for your weapons, character and skills. Again, this is pretty easy to unlock within a few hours. The “Challenge” tutorials will have unlocked all the add-ons for your guns just like that snaps fingers and the rest come from leveling up your character. Which is relatively fast given that even Challenge mode contributes to this.

So to sum it up, the game is good with friends (but without split-screen support, they will need copies too). The netcode is broken right now until a patch emerges. Unlocks come so easily that any sense of achievement is gone. Frustrating A.I. Hampers any kind of solo attempt.

The good news- Splash Damage and Bethesda have apologised to their fans for it's poor performance and are giving away their first DLC for FREE, when it's ready. So, if you have some other players to join you, you'll be ok… I hope.

But for me, it's such a shame to see something so ambitious turn so wrong.

"Good Game, But Definitely Flawed..."
3 stars"

The gameplay is good and interactive and definitely immerses you in th action. Although has multiple points where is could be improved (repetitive gameplay, limited A.I. Capabilities etc) it is a good game for those who like just getting into the game and new concepts around the gameplay.

"For all the hype it's very average."
2 stars"

Brink was supposed to be the next line of futuristic fps game for fps fanatics every where..Instead it has come out as a very average let down…Definetly a team based game, but the game play itself is, at best, good enough to keep a 10 year old playing for about an hour…The graphics, although good, have some very dark areas, and it can be quite hard to keep up with what or where your next task is…AI in this game should be called Lack of AI because they have no intelligence to speak of…worth a rent but save your cash…A popular store to trade games with are only offering $40.00 for trade ins…Mighty Ape if I were you I'd return the stock you have left and get a refund if you can…I wish I could get my money back…

"Not for offline gamers"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Watching the initial cinematic, you feel the rush of an long upcoming campaign to either crush a rebellion, or to take down the institution. Unfortunately the game falls short. With only 8 missions per ‘side’, and each disjointed mission being able to be completed in approximately 5 minutes, the campaign becomes very short. With only 8 missions per campaign, the plot is very thin and far between, missing chunks of possible gameplay.

As for the gameplay itself, it is very repetitive, small arena missions. Hack this. Protect this. It is more like playing multiplayer Halo, than a campaign. The ‘parkour’ style movement is very glitchy, but still better than many other games, but with the limited arena size, there is no need for it.

I'm very much a novice gamer and I finished both campaigns in a few hours, so I cant imagine it keeping intermediate or advanced games entertained for long.

"ONLY BUY IF UNDER $10"
1 stars"

Started the game up , seemed pretty cool , created my dude and began the campaign. I really should have researched this game first. First off I found it plays like a nerdy online fight for the flag game…boring. The graphics are average and the gameplay is just limp. Do not waste too much money on this one. There will be some folks out their that enjoy this style of game but not for most.

"Why so much hate"
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It is quite a good game, despite all the negative comments. Shore it's no Halo or Call Of Duty or Battle Field, but it is still quite fun to sit down on a Sunday afternoon and play when you have nothing better too do. It is good to note if you buy this game, do some of the challenges before starting story, free play or campaign. Most people jump strait into the many game types before doing the challenges. The reason it is handy to do these challenges is that you unlock weapons and attachments.

The story is very week with the random cuteness only there really to entertain between loading screens and game play. All that you need to worry about is that it is a fun game.

"Good for a quicky but little lastability"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

The game itself is quite good. Standard shoot-em-up, the CPU can be frustrating at points but can be managed if you're not an idiot. Gameplay is pretty solid but the story is over rather quickly for each faction. Still added features to unlock, and a free play mode however. Overall, it's worth it if you can get it at a low price just as something new to play and a change from your current games

"One of the worst games I have ever bought!"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I bought this game a couple of years ago in 2011 when it came out, due to an overreacting enthusiam on developments in the FPS genre. I was quite mistaken in this regard, now look, enough said! $8 now. Bargain bin prices, good deal for someone if you want a cruddy cheap game with loads of issues that others in the review section have already catalogued and which I won't repeat here as that would be quite unnecessary. What a shame! I had quite a bit of hope in this game when I first found out about it. But for now I will stick to the tried and true and tested games BF, COD, Halo, etc, and the new potentials, e.g. Titanfall. As for this one, I won't be too overly harsh or subjective as some have been, I will just say: pass. I will resell or give away my copy to a friend for free. What's done is done.

This game was originally $110 now it is $9 on sale. That's how good this game is. In my view it is a MAJOR fail, a serious let down, something that had promise but that promise has long since disappeared down the money drain haha.

"Could be a huge hit!"
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

My first impressions of this game are incredible, and although it can take a while to pick up the controls, fans of other major shooters will have no trouble. Especially with the options to change controls to those mimicking Call of Duty, Halo, Left 4 Dead and many others. The customisation is very in depth and the environments are beautiful. I think that this game could really explode with some more advertising.

"Could be amazing"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game has some interesting new mechanics, and has the potential to be an amazing game. It suffers from two problems though, which hinder the fun as you go through. The first problem is the AI. As you level up, the AI on the other team gets smarter and stronger as you would expect. However the AI on your team may get slighty stronger, but stays the same level of stupidity. This leads to many fustrating games once you level up, as often you have to take at least half the other team while fufilling all the objectives on your own. The other problem is the lack of other players in games. If I search for a game I expect more than two players with bots filling the other fourteen places. At least here the bots are the same level of AI. Apart from these two major issues, it is a fun game. The art style of borderlands meets bad company 2, with faster paced warfare than either and a great parkour aspect to the movement. The inovations are handy for quick and sizeable amounts of points with an objective wheel on the Dpad easy to use once used a couple of times.

This game really sucks. Bad purchase choice.

"One Button to rule them all"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

While I rate this average, it's not cos the game lacks something, it's got a really neat feature for those of us without the kind of twitch reflexes needed to hop over small gaps accurately and wall-climb/wall-hop duck under stuff or counter hop without fumbling the two or more buttons needed to perform the moves. Instead, it has SMART which lets you just hold the button down and let the character ‘ride the invisible rails’ doing all that annoying stuff that some of us may fail to pull off right, letting us concentrate on getting where we're going or just keep focused on putting holes in the other guy.

Not a bad feature. Though this cool factor seems offset by the apparent Spitting Image/Team Fortress cartooniness of the characters.

A shame cos there is a lot going for this, such as the ability to merely tap your right stick to do a specific to your class ability such as throw ammo to your buddies as a soldier or a healing syringe from your medic. Other neat touches are hacking, defending a wounded colleague and an RC robot that looks like a bomb disposal bot with weapons.

Lots of features to be unlocked by playing too.

"Great game!"

Great game for the money. I have yet to work my way through it but it is an entertaining game, with loads of variations. Being able to change character through the game adds a change to the normal game.

"Mechanically good FPS needs more fans"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Not every FPS game nowadays offers solid action, good movement mechanics, and an apolitical context in which to choose sides and wreak havoc (or attempt to maintain order) accordingly. Brink is a solid shooter; delivering all the basics that are expected of a modern FPS product, allowing good customisation of weapons and avatar, and incorporating the tactical movement system that developers Splash Damage called S.M.A.R.T. (smooth movement across random terrain). This essentially means that the player, whilst in a first-person perspective, moves over terrain much like the protagonist of any chapter of the Assassin's Creed series. No longer do pipes or crates have to be navigated with separate jumps or crouches – the player slides and leaps to his destination in one smooth parkour sequence. This can be further augmented and varied by use of differing body types. Use a Heavy, and he's free to use a chaingun and soak up damage, but won't fly so far across a gap. Light body types will be restricted to lighter weapons and feel damage more, but will catch ledges a surprising distance away. Further customisation is added by combat archetypes (soldier/engineer/medic and ‘operative’ – a catch-all hacker, saboteur and espionage agent) and an experience point/skill system that allows good single-class skill focus for team play and diversification for the single player campaign. Want a hacker who can sprint over terrain to the goal, then steal an enemy's appearance and shoot the opposition in the back when they rush to the scene- Or an engineer who can repair or build a goal structure, then hold his own in combat- Brink caters to these tastes and more, and encourages strong team play and goal focus. Got no-one to play with- The AI for the ‘bots is also surprising, allowing the player to focus on whatever they choose while being backed up with refreshing ease. All this makes it a bit unfortunate that, while the single player missions are good, even both mission sets taken together are relatively short. There are no female characters in this game either – if you desire to play a female avatar, you're out of luck. The background story is an excellent premise, but is also synopsised so much that the end product feels flat, and unfortunately fails to connect the player if they are not already engaging with the ideas presented. There is a DLC pack available, but the play area focus is still multiplayer maps, and the content was originally free for the first two weeks after its’ initial release, apparently to boost sales. There are also Achievements in the game that are only accessible if you have the DLC. It appears to the observer as if Brink is a launchpad for a hopeful franchise that didn't quite make it, and as a result there are areas where, for the demanding consumer, game satisfaction is a patchy affair. Having said this, however, there is plenty of value in this game if supportive team play is your focus; if not, you may still like the movement mechanics and features. Just be prepared; it's unapologetically an old-school macho firefight, even with the new twists.

"It had potential."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It had good potential and was very much a promising new release, though on launch it was riddled with bugs and multiplayer issues that drove so many people (including myself) away from it. Very disappointing.

I did enjoy the new concept ideas of the multiplayer when I could play a reasonably lag-free game, though the singleplayer left a LOT to be desired. A real shame because so many people wanted this game to be great.

I'm not sure how much they have patched the game since launch, or how playable it is now, but from what I played I would have to unfortunately say; avoid getting this game.

A very generous three-stars.

"Great game when playing online with friends."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I love the idea that you can play the campaign either solo or with friends online. I really prefer playing with friends because we can talk to each other and request assistance straight away. But one fault many people have noticed are the bots that are working with you in your team when playing solo – they're so stupid! It's like I'm one man versus the opposition (of 8 or more) because the bots are useless, and the Medic bots either don't come for me or they die on the way. However, I really do enjoy this game ‘Brink’ when playing online with friends and the S.M.A.R.T. Movement is really handy at times. I've rated it four stars :)

"Great potential but let down by A.I."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

When I first heard about Brink I was immediately sucked in, lovely art style, fun gameplay, and neat customisation.

The game tried it's best to keep up to the hype around it however it fell a little short.

If you buy this game as a multiplayer only title, you will probably get your money's worth, as it has everything going for it in that department (bar some console connectivity problems). However if you buy this game for the singleplayer, you will probably find yourself let down.

The A.I. Is incredibly dumb. The enemy A.I. Is either extremely easy and propose no challenge at all, or way too hard where they take you down in a few bullets, while it takes a whole lot more for you to take them down. Meanwhile your team mate A.I. Fails to accept that this a team game, and you will constantly find them off lone wolfing and providing very little support for anything you try to do.

Overall I'd recommend this game if you are going to play with friends, however if you choose to go solo, you may want to avoid this.
