Description

Bruno and the Beach is a lively, highly illustrated book celebrating the fortieth anniversary of Canada's longest running dramatic TV production, The Beachcombers, which aired on CBC TV from 1972 to 1990. The "Beach" of the title what insiders called both the show and the filming location was the town of Gibsons, BC, which became famous around the world. Bruno, of course, refers to the show's pint-sized but larger-than-life star, Bruno Gerussi, whose passionate battles to keep the show from being cancelled by indifferent CBC executives were as dramatic as anything that occurred on camera. Bruno and the Beach is a portrait of an unforgettable actor, the story of a legendary television series and of the remarkable community that grew up around them. Illustrated with call sheets, memorabilia and many photos from The Beachcombers, the book includes behind-the-scenes stories about the supporting cast, including Robert Clothier (Relic), Pat John (Jesse), Rae Brown (Molly) and many others who helped make the series such a hit. Filled with anecdotes, trivia, pranks and even some of Bruno Gerussi's recipes, this is the remarkable saga of a small, home-grown TV series that is still watched and remembered all over the world.
